This week we talk with Jay Pacitti, Exiting Executive Director and Founder of Get Your Guts In Gear. He tells us about his diagnosis of Crohn's Disease and what lead to the developement of the rides. Get more information about it here. He also talked about a couple of great websites.
http://www.ibdsucks.com/ helps bring people together that are affected by IBD and Ostomies.
http://www.ibdquilt.org/ generates public awareness for ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease including complications such as colon cancer and ostomy. The quilt panels tour and exhibit for education and support. Crafted by and for the inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) community, the quilts provide an outlet to express the thoughts and experiences of living with chronic diseases
An update on what something we talked about last week. Lois has made headway in contacting people at Greys Anatomy! She was able to talk to the Cheif Medical Advisor to the show, and really wants to hear from the community about what they got wrong with their 2009 season premier that painted Ostomies in a negative light. Please help Lois and the community out by BLOWING UP the mailboxes for ShondaLand and Mark Gordon. They are both expecting letters and want as much input on what they can do to correct the situation. If you want help in knowing what to send, send us an email.
We are starting to compile story's for an upcoming episode about the real face of IBD, Ostomies, and Colorectal Cancer. Please, if you have a story to share, email us! We would love to talk to you or read your story for others to hear.
Next week, we will be talking with Jim Smith. He lives with UC and has recently ran the Disney Half Marathon, Ridden in multiple distance bicycle events, and is in training for running his first Marathon next year. We will be asking him about his training and how the UC doesn't stop him from making things happen! If you have any questions for him, please email us and let us know.
We also have a few other interviews on the horizon we would love to know what you want to know. First is Rob and Clinton, 2 guys living with IBD and not letting it stop them from Summitting Mt. Everest later this year! Read about what it is that they are doing here. If you have anything that you want to ask them, please email us so we can ask for you.
Until next week!
