Standing on our Soapboxes this week on Talkin 'Bout Guts

Warning: This weeks episode was left unedited and uncensored for a reason. Listener discression is advised.

This week on Talkin 'Bout Guts, Daniel and Matt had to take a minute to get on their soapboxes and talk about some things that they believe need to be addressed.

My Apologies for not getting this information on the site yesterday when I posted this episode. But here's what you want to know

This year, the FY11 Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Bill cuts funding for the CDC's IBD Epidemiology Program.  This would cut VITAL research into IBD, diseases that are already relatively unknown to the medical community and the world.  With so much unknown, and so many people that have run out of treatment options, research is critical, and it will be cut unless we speak up! Please take a minute to write your representatives and tell them that they can NOT let this happen!

Tony Kornheiser, host of his own show on ESPN radio 980 in DC and TV host of ESPN's PTI and Monday Night Football went on a rant on March 11, 2010 against bicyclists saying "Run Them Down!" and "Just bump them off the road..."  The audio of this rant in its entirity is in the show.
On March 19th, he had Lance Armstrong on the show to apologize for his rant.  Listen to that audio HERE

I could not find a direct email address for Tony, but you can contact the show through their web form found HERE.  You can also contact the heads of ESPN Radio, and ESPN TV. I am working on finding proper email addresses to the Disney corporation (the parent company to ESPN)

We will be back on Wednesday with a special edition of Talkin 'Bout Guts where we will be talking to Rob Hill, a man who lives with Crohn's and an Ostomy, who is taking off to go climb Mt. Everest.

Until Then... you can always email the show talk@talkinboutguts.com

Almost like we knew what we were doing this week on Talkin 'Bout Guts

This week on Talkin Bout Guts, we talk about Awareness coming in situations that you may not expect it, get funny with a guy living with Crohn's and finding all the creative ways to raise money for the cause, and Matt decides to surprise Daniel with a Mystery question

This past weekend, both Daniel and Matt volunteered to work the Get Your Guts In Gear booth at the Seattle Bike Expo to try and find some more riders for this years rides.  While there, both were surprised by the stories that were shared about people either living with or know people living with IBD or an Ostomy. They share about their experience with that.

Also on this show, we talk to Gary Beckman, a guy living with Crohn's who not only finds ways to have way too much fun in everything that he does, he finds some very creative ways to raise money for awareness and research.  Check out his blog here

Matt's new feature on the show... His Mystery Question of the Week.  He has decided to try and surprise Daniel with a random question that he has though of throughout the week.  What has he come up with this week???

As always, if you have anything to say about anything... please email us!

Until Next Week!

Another Week, Another Episode for you!

This week on Talkin 'Bout Guts, we read a letter that was sent to us from a listener, talk to a teenager that isn't letting IBD stop him from doing the things he wants to do... including climbing 17,000ft to the base of Mt. Everest, and talk a little bit about what happened in Washington DC during Great Comebacks.

Clinton Shard, a 17 yr old from Squamish, BC, isn't letting his Crohn's disease stop him from making the trek with Rob Hill to the base camp of Mt. Everest in just a few short weeks.  He also summitted Mt. Kilimanjaro with Rob in September of 2009.  In the run-up to making the Everest trip, he is traveling around Canada telling his story to hopefully inspire others to not let IBD stop them! Check out his story Here and Here

You may have notice the new graphic.  Well after all the submissions, we have found a logo that we absolutely fell in love with and we think that absolutely gets what it is that we are doing here.  We have to thank Michael for taking the time to submit it! We will have him on the show to reveal the super secret prize for making it!

In the near future, we will be relaunching the website! If you have any input on what we need on it, please let us know! We want to make it as user friendly as we can and give you access to all the information that you want.

Until next week, please feel free to email us Talk@TalkinBoutGuts.com
