Big Ideas and Cool Authors this week on Talkin 'Bout Guts

This week on Talkin 'Bout Guts, we talk about what happened this season on Grey's Anatomy in relation to how they have portrayed Ostomies, Sit down with Brenda Elsagher to talk about her writing including the 4th book she is currently working on, and talk about what's coming up next.

This week, for the 2nd time this season, the writers and producers of Grey's Anatomy have taken the time to reinforce a lot of negative stereotypes in society on their show.  There are a lot of things happening to try and inform the writers of thier error.  Here's just a few:

There is a new Facebook group that has started: Shame On Grey's Anatomy for their negative views on Ostomies
There is a email campaign that has started to ABC that will hopefully help out. Want to join, go to ABC.com and click on the Contact Us link
If you want someone to call, here's the number to Miguel (the Executive Producer's assistant) 323-671-5744. He hasn't been too helpfull, giving me an unmonitored email address, but maybe someone else can get through to him and get something usefull.
The UOAA claims it is working on something, but as I have yet to see anything about this, I will assume that they are just keeping appearances by saying they are but probably have nothing in the works.

Matt and Daniel have some great ideas on what needs to happen, and the realization is that Grey's Anatomy isn't where our efforts should be.  We talk about what needs to happen to really get traction in the awareness movement, but nobody wants to listen.  Our gripe, don't say you want to raise awareness and continue to preach to the choir, it get's you nowhere.

This week, Daniel sat down and talked to Brenda Elsagher. She is currently working on her 4th book about Ostomies and the Bedroom.  If you want to join in on the fun, check her website out http://www.livingandlaughing.com/ or send her an email brenda@livingandlaughing.com. Her phone # is also on the website.

Till next week...

Bizarrely funny this week on Talkin 'Bout Guts

We are back this week talkin 'bout guts as always!

This week has a lot of events going on.  If you are anywhere near FL, you need to go welcome The Cycling SemiColons back from a safe journey across the southern tear of the USA.  Todd will be arriving on Friday, so check out their website and meet up with him when he gets there!

This week I took some time to talk to Ben Morrison.  This extremely funny man has been everywhere and has a great comedy album that chronicals his journey with Crohn's.  You have to go check it out here, and go buy the Video off his website.  In a couple weeks time, they will be releasing the audio version of this on iTunes!  We will let you know once that day happens.  You can also follow him on Facebook or Twitter.

Here's the easy way to put the links up after our extensive name dropping session
